Bertram R. , Rex . Obituary


Bertram R. Rex, 82, of 500 N. 9th St., Lehighton died peacefully at his home Sunday, Jan. 31st. He was the husband of Betty J. "Patty" Bond Rex since June 6, 1953. Born in Lehighton, he was the son of the late Bertram R. and Mamie Stuckley Rex. He served his country in the US Army during WWII as an electric motor & generator repairman and received the WWII Victory medal before his discharge in Dec. 1946. He worked as a Senior Engineer for over 35 years at Western Electric/Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies before retiring in 1985. Bert was awarded a US Patent for a "Controlled Behavior Bidirectional Semi-Conductor Switch". He was an amatuer Radio Operator, W30WP since 1948. Bert started the Carbon County AARP Tax Aid Program for senior citizens in the mid 1980's, and remained active for many years. He began volunteering for Meals On Wheels in Lehighton in the late 1990's and continued until his death. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton, Lehighton Masonic Lodge #621, Lehigh Consistory Vally of Allentown, Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club, and attended Grundsow Lodsch Nummer Elfe and der Feirlein. Surviving are his wife, 3 daughters, Bonnie wife of Chester Ruminsky of Hatfield, Pa., Susan wife of John Bednar Walnutport, Pa., Trudy wife of Robert DiMattia of Reisterstown Maryland, 1 son Bert Rex and his wife Linda of Audobon, Pa. 6 Grandchildren, Nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Mildred Lawlor, Arlene Hahn, & 2 brothers, Roy & Robert. A Celebration Of Life Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 175 S. 3rd St., Lehighton with The Reverend Robert A. vonFrisch officiating. The interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in his name be made to Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital attn: "Meals On Wheels" 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton Pa. 18235 or Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 175 S. 3rd St., Lehighton, Pa. 18235 The Andrew P.
